Bachelor of Health, Sport and Physical Education (Honours) (BHSPE(Hons))
This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the health and physical education field. It also prepares them for professional practice in sports education and related areas (i.e. Sports coaching and health promotion). Graduates of this program will qualify with the Queensland College of teachers as specialist’s teachers of physical education, health education and junior science. This accreditation is recognised worldwide. During this program they will undertake significant professional practice in a range of vocational settings including schools, the sport, and health and fitness industry and sports associations. Practical experience complements in-depth learning of the complex and diverse nature of human movement from physiological, biomechanical, socio-cultural, psychological, and teaching (pedagogical) and health perspectives. This program emphasizes essential skills that are valued by employers such as planning, organizational, presentation and problem-solving, thus enhancing self-confidence and employability. They will be encouraged to critically appraise, question and lead change in education, innovations and research. Graduates have excellent rates of employment in a variety of employment settings including secondary schools, sporting associations, universities and colleges, professional associations (e.g. National heart foundation), health promotion agencies, and private practice. Graduates may work as: - health and physical education teachers - sports coordinator/coaches - professional coaches/director of coaching - outdoor educators - junior science teachers - education officers - sports administration officers - recreation and sports development officers - health promotion officers - corporate health officers this program provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in areas including exercise science, public health, or sports coaching.
Students must have completed year 12 or equivalent English and one of biological science, chemistry or physics. They should also satisfy the English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 7.5 and Listening 8, Reading 7, Writing 7, and Speaking 8; TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): overall score 87 with a writing score of 21 and reading, speaking and listening scores of 19; PTE: overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): a grade of C (58); Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): a grade of C (45) or better; TOEFL (Paper-based): overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading.
